Ceramic Wheel Throwing Classes
Intermediate Ceramic Wheel Throwing- Wednesday 6-9
7 week class – 3 hours once a week
$200 members/ non members $250

This series introduces the art of throwing on the potter’s wheel. Students learn to create various vessel shapes including bowls, mugs and vases. We also examine altering, trimming and decorating techniques to enhance their pieces. This class also introduces glazing and students complete the series with finished masterpieces. Students are encouraged to use the studio as much as possible during our regular business hours to practice what they have learned!

Materials Fee:

For Ceramics only, we require an additional fee of $25 per 25 lb. which includes firing.

Additional Information:

  • We will store the clay on site for up to 3 months.
  •  All unused clay will be recycled. 
  • We cannot allow outside clay or glazes to be fired in our kiln.

Students can share the community tools or you can bring your own tools. Here is an example of great kit.
Tools are not required but if you decide to bring your own, we recommend you label them.

We require a minimum of 4 students to be registered and paid at least 3 days in advance for this class to commence.
If minimum is not reached 3 days before scheduled class paid students will be refunded and class will be canceled.    

Already familiar with ceramics?
Everyone is welcome to use the ceramics open studio and all of the supplies on hand:
Low fire electric kiln
5 electric wheels
1 kick wheel
Glazes and underglazes
Pottery tools

Come get certified by demonstrating your knowledge of ceramics and you can sculpt or throw during regular studio hours.

Ceramics Certification is approximately 2 hours. We will go over the rules of the studio, and you will be required to show competency in wedging, and wheel throwing or hand building. $25 non-refundable fee for certification.

Ryan Mathew Gray

Ryan Mathew Gray

Ryan Mathew Gray is a Youngstown, New York native and draws heavily from the influence the area had on his developing sense of aesthetics and balance of the natural world. After graduating from Lewiston-Porter, where Ryan first was exposed to the world of ceramics, he was accepted to Buffalo State College in Buffalo, New York. There, he majored in ceramics and acted as the President of the student run ceramics club.

After graduating with a B.S. in Ceramic Design, he went on to complete his Masters in Fine Arts at San Diego State University in San Diego, California, a three year program culminating in his final thesis show, Insincerus, April 2014.

Ryan is currently working as an adjunct professor in Ceramics at Miracosta Community College. http://ryanmathewgray.weebly.com
